RFTG has historically chosen to take the official position of political neutrality (and we will remain so). There are many issues on both sides of the political spectrum that are of import for gospel focused issues. Additionally, there are many biblically faithful followers of Jesus who vote both Republican and Democrat. The 2024 election cycle has shaped up to be one of the most unprecedented and consequential elections in American history. At this point, many Americans are experiencing election fatigue and are simply ready for the entire affair to be over with. For this reason, with Election Day happening this week, we thought it would be helpful to hit pause and pray. Below we have provided two collects (prayers) from the Book of Common Prayer that will help guide you in prayer for both our nation’s leadership and for the election in general.
A Collect (Prayer) An Election
Almighty God, to whom we must account for all our powers and privileges: Guide and direct, we humbly pray, the minds of all those who are called to elect fit persons to serve in federal, state, and locally elected positions (especially for the offices of the President, Vice President, Congressional, and various others). Grant that in the exercise of our choice we may promote your glory, and the welfare of this nation. This we ask for the sake of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Amen.

A Collect (Prayer) Civil Authorities
Almighty God, our heavenly Father, send down on those who hold public office [especially President Biden, Vice President Harris, those who serve in Congress, and various state and locally elected positions of authority] the spirit of wisdom, charity, and justice; that with steadfast purpose they may faithfully serve in their offices to promote the well‑being of all people; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
