Starting August 2025, we will be launching an RFTG Men’s Book Club. This will be an in person expression of the RFTG community and will provide a space for men to gather around the written word for the purpose of spiritual and intellectual formation. We also want this opportunity to be a space for genuine fellowship and friendship (books and bourbon). The plan is to meet once a month from August to November (2025) and then again starting January to April (2026). For the purpose of this “trial run” we will only be offering this opportunity to men who are within driving distance of Birmingham, AL. More details on the dates and location will be forth coming.
The book that has been selected for the first iteration of the Book Club will be The City of God (Abridged) by St. Augustine translated and abridged by Vernon Bourke published by Image Press. For those who want to be a little more ambitious, you can pick up an un-abridged version, we can provide recommendations in future correspondences. The City of God is a classic Christian text, written in the early 5th century AD, that explores what it means to be a Christian (citizen of heaven) as well as a citizen of specific culture here on earth. Written during the fall of the Roman Empire, a major cultural shift for ancient Western society, there is much that we can learn for our modern context from this classic Christian text from one of Christianity’s most beloved saints.
Our first meeting will be on Friday August 22nd from 7pm-9pm. If you are interested in being part of the RFTG Men’s Book Club, or would like more information please sign up at the link below.
We look forward to having you join us!
